Absolute Cold

15 01 2008

Just found out about this.  Tonight will be part 2 (?) of a PBS NOVA series on Absolute Zero.   Heck, even on the website, there’s an interview with Luis Orozco, who’s lab I’m sharing.  Also, my advisor did some of the early experiments leading up to the first BEC.  I believe the first part is available online.  The second part will be too, after it airs.

Missed Call

9 01 2008

I just a missed call.  Apparently, More Than Carpets tried to call me.  Now, I’m not looking for carpeting, nor have I given out my number to any carpet store.  Let alone the fact that this store is in Ketchikan, Alaska.  This town is right by the Tongass Narrows, where the bridge to nowhere was to be located.  It’s quite likely that they dialed the wrong area code, but it is amusing nonetheless.  Either that, or they’re trying to give me a deal on a carpet if I ask my congressman to support the bridge.

Okay. I just wasted 30 minutes looking for how to adjust my fonts in GNOME. Apparently, GNOME 2.20 is now in Debian testing, and I ended up installing that. After upgrading, somehow my fonts were screwed up a bit, and wanted to fix it. But the GNOME programmers decided to change the preferences menu a bit, and got rid of the “font” preference, and lump it together with the themes, etc in a new “appearance” preference. Somehow it took my half an hour to discover this.

So this is a lame post starting off 2008.  Oh well..
